Wadworth Brewery approached AUB with the brief of designing two new can designs for their two new beers. Wadworth were opening a new brewery, so in celebration of this were giving us the opportunity to create a name for the new brewery, alongside naming the new beers which we were designing the cans for.

I started my creative journey into researching into the origins of Wadworth’s brand identity, and discovered a route that I thought could be interesting to explore as a theme for the brewery.

After deciding on names and a brand identity for the new brewery and cans, I revisited my market research to get a feel for what Wadworth wanted their new sub-brand’s identity to be. The current competition was colourful, quirky and bold, so I kept these elements in mind when experimenting with designs for the new cans.

Below are the final three routes I chose for the new can designs. Each route is an interpretation of the new brewery name Boundary. The first route explores literal boundaries, these designs feature obvious boundaries with the names of the beers eluding to the idea of different sides on either side of the boundary.

The second route was inspired by maps and borders. These designs feature a rough map based on the area where the new brewery will be located. The names chosen, although still implying boundaries, feel more location based.

My third and final route explores the idea of what can han happen when there are no boundaries. This route is inspired by space with the idea that there are no boundaries in space. The names of these beers haven been chosen as I feel they best represent boundaries as well as having connotations of space.
